Bottling Beer

Once the fermentation is complete after 2 weeks, you will want to start the bottling process. The easiest way to do this is to start accumulating empty beer bottles leading up to the day you are going to bottle. One note : you will need to have non-twist beer bottles. As a rule of thumb, we like to keep 10 bottles for every gallon you brew just in case a bottle breaks or cracks along the way.

Step 1 :

After sanitizing each bottle, set the bottom of the siphon about an inch above the sediment layer in the fermenter. Siphon the beer out of the fermenter into a sanitized pot passing the beer through a sanitized strainer to catch any sediment that might have passed through.

Step 2 :

In a separate bowl, add 3 tablespoons of priming sugar to 2 ounces of warm water and stir.

Step 3 :

Add the priming sugar solution from step 2 to the beer that was siphoned into the pot and stir.

Step 4 :

Siphon the beer into each individual bottle leaving about 2 inches from the top of the bottle.

Step 5 :

After sanitizing the bottle caps, place one on top of each bottle and crimp the bottle using a bottle capper. Note that this process can be a little fragile and sometimes a bottle will crack during the process (every home brewer has done it at least once).

Step 6 :

After bottling has been complete, wait another 2 weeks for the beer to become carbonated. Once this is done, you are ready to drink your beer!
